These horror movie facts will leave you shocked.

Horror is without a doubt my favorite genre when it comes to movies. Even though it may sound creepy, I spend a lot of time watching horror flicks, collecting horror memorabilia, and studying the films.

I’ve even been thinking about reviewing some of the horror memorabilia I own. Sound like a good idea? Let me know by leaving a comment! I’ve been contemplating it.

Now, back to the original subject here. There’s some facts about horror movies that the average person, and even some horror fans don’t even know about.

Let’s get started…

5. Molly Ringwald was originally offered the role of Sidney Prescott in the “Scream” series, instead of Neve Campbell

You may find this hard to believe, but Molly Ringwald could have been Sidney Prescott in the Scream films franchise, instead of Neve Campbell.

Molly Ringwald is well-known for being in those 80′s high school flicks. In the Scream franchise, she would have once again taken on the role of a high school student. Molly Ringwald was close to 30 at the time, so she turned down the offer and Neve Campbell took on the role of Sidney Prescott.

3. Robert Englund wasn’t originally going to play Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2

Any fan of the A Nightmare on Elm Street series knows that Robert Englund is the man that made Freddy Krueger who he is. However, studio executives were in need of a wake up call. They thought that any one could take on the role of Freddy Krueger, because it’s essentially a man that’s hidden by make up. Sounds like a good plan; right?

Wrong!

Of course, after the success that the original film had seen, Robert Englund felt like he deserved more money to play the role of Freddy Krueger for a second time. The higher ups at New Line Cinema didn’t agree with Robert, so they hired a stuntman to play the role of Freddy Krueger.

Apparently, the stuntman was absolutely awful and the studio realized it. The studio gave Robert a call, told him they wanted him back, paid him what he was asking and the rest is history!

2. Man passes out during  a screening of The Exorcist and sues Warner Brothers.

No horror movie article out there is complete without a mention of The Exorcist. This film, when it came out, was highly controversial and made a ton of people physically ill in theaters.

Back in 1974, when the film was released in theaters, numerous people actually passed out while watching the flick. There were people running up the aisles, trying to escape the theater as soon as possible. People were puking. In other words, The Exorcist is a bad ass film.

One guy, back in 1974, was watching The Exorcist in theaters and passed out. When he passed out, he hit jaw first on a theater seat and was left with a broken jaw. The man decided to sue Warner Brothers, because The Exorcist was just too damn scary for him. Warner Brothers settled with the man outside of court.

1. The Shining WITHOUT Jack Nicholson

Are you ready for this one? Originally, there were other people considered to play the role of Jack from “The Shining” other than the man himself, Jack Nicholson.

So, who else was considered for the role that would be considered shocking?

Robert De Niro

- Can you imagine a version of The Shining with Robert De Niro as Jack? The mental image I’m getting is certainly not a good one. Luckily, Stanley Kubrick didn’t go with De Niro, because he watched the film “Taxi Driver” and felt like De Niro wasn’t psychotic enough.

Robin Williams

- Stanley Kubrick deemed Robin Williams too psychotic for the role after seeing him in Mork & Mindy.

Harrison Ford

- Stephen King has stated that Stanley Kubrick briefly considered Harrison Ford for the role of Jack in The Shining.
